In God’s Kingdom, you can hurt yourself when you make people the reason for your service. If your commitment is built on applause, recognition, titles or constant praise, disappointment will eventually come because people can be inconsistent. They may celebrate you today and ignore you tomorrow. But your service was never meant to be driven by human approval. Your commitment is first to God. The truth is that God does not need us in order to remain God, but we desperately need Him. Through service, God shapes our hearts, builds humility in us and keeps us aligned with His purpose.
Think about the person who arrives early to arrange chairs before service starts. Most people may never know who prepared the environment they now enjoy. Think about the media team member behind the cameras, the cleaner looking after God’s house, the usher standing for long hours, the choir member practising faithfully or the prayer warrior praying privately when no one sees. Their names may never be announced publicly, but God sees every sacrifice. Many people desire visible platforms, but God often watches how faithful you are in hidden places before He entrusts you with greater responsibility. “Whoever is faithful in small matters will be faithful in large ones.” Luke 16:10 (GNT)
Sometimes God allows difficult assignments because they reveal what is truly in our hearts. When service becomes demanding, inconvenient or unappreciated, some people begin to complain, compare themselves with others or quietly withdraw. Yet those seasons often build patience, discipline, humility and spiritual maturity. Joseph served faithfully in prison before entering the palace. David served in lonely fields before he reached the throne. Ruth served Naomi faithfully before stepping into divine favour. Even Jesus washed the feet of His disciples, showing that true greatness in God’s Kingdom is found in humble service. John 13:14–15 (GNT)
One of the most comforting truths in scripture is that heaven keeps records that people cannot erase. “Then the people who feared the Lord spoke with one another, and the Lord listened and heard them. In His presence there was written down a scroll of remembrance.” Malachi 3:16 (GNT) Every unseen sacrifice, every quiet act of obedience and every time you choose joy over bitterness is being recorded by God. There are rewards, favour and doors that no human being can give.
So serve with joy. Serve with humility. Serve with excellence. Serve when people notice and when they do not. Serve when it is convenient and when it costs you something. If God remains your audience, you will remain steady because God truly remembers what men forget. Your labour in His Kingdom is never wasted. “Your work is not useless in the Lord’s service.” 1 Corinthians 15:58 (GNT)
“For God is not unfair. He will not forget the work you did or the love you showed for Him in the help you gave and are still giving to your fellow Christians.” Hebrews 6:10 (GNT)
