IGP Calls For Respectful Treatment Of Citizens By Police

Officers of the Nigeria Police Force have been instructed by Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tunji Disu to make sure that citizens are treated professionally and civilly.

During a courtesy visit to the Lagos State Governor’s Office Correspondents (LAGOCO) in Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos on Saturday, I spoke. Officers need to acknowledge citizens as their “bosses,” according to Disu.

“I have told the officers not to bring the name of the Rapid Response Squad down.

“They must treat members of the public as their bosses because they are paid with taxpayers’ money,” Disu said.

The IGP went on to say that he was in Lagos to interact with important stakeholders, such as Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, senior police officials, and RRS staff, with the goal of strengthening discipline, professionalism, and respect for human rights within the Force.

Chairman George Okojie, a representative of LAGOCO, praised Disu’s people-oriented leadership style and described him as approachable and modest.

He expressed faith in Disu’s leadership, pointing out that it gives hope for ongoing advancements in Nigerian law enforcement.

Police officers must prioritize the safety and well-being of citizens above all else. It is essential that they uphold their duty to protect and serve, rather than engaging in harassment or intimidation.

By treating citizens with respect and dignity, law enforcement can foster trust and cooperation within the community, ultimately leading to a safer and more harmonious society.

Power is of two kinds. One is obtained by the fear of punishment and the other by acts of love. Power based on love is a thousand times more effective and permanent then the one derived from fear of punishment." - Mahatma Gandh
