The United States Secret Service has launched an investigation into a shooting incident that occurred in Washington, D.C., during the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner at the Washington Hilton.
According to officials, the incident took place near a key security screening point close to the venue, specifically around the main magnetometer checkpoint where guests and tourists are typically screened. The proximity to this controlled area prompted an immediate response from officers already stationed at the site.
In a statement shared via social media, Anthony Guglielmi confirmed that all individuals under Secret Service protection, including the President and First Lady, were safe following the incident. He noted that the agency is working closely with the Metropolitan Police Department to determine the full circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Authorities have confirmed that one suspect has been arrested, while investigations continue to establish the motive and assess any potential threat. Law enforcement teams remain on the ground gathering evidence and verifying details.
Guglielmi assured the public that updates would be provided as more information becomes available, emphasising that the situation is being carefully managed.
The incident has renewed concerns about security at high-profile public events in the nation’s capital. As the investigation progresses, officials are expected to review and possibly strengthen existing security measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
