Suspected bandits have attacked a community in Makarfi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, leaving several residents dead and others abducted during the raid.

The attack reportedly occurred in the early hours of Monday, causing panic among residents of the area.

Videos circulating on social media showed scenes of confusion and distress as gunshots were heard in the background while residents ran for safety. One of the videos was shared on X by Hon. Nuhu Sada, the Social Democratic Party candidate for the Kaduna State House of Assembly.

In one of the posts, Sada described the incident as a night of terror in Makarfi near Zaria and expressed concern over the worsening security situation in the northern region.

Another post shared earlier suggested that the attack was still ongoing at the time the video was recorded. According to the post, residents were seen running for their lives while cries for help could be heard in the background.

In one of the clips, a young boy recounted how the gunmen stormed their home and assaulted members of his family before abducting his grandmother.

According to the boy, the attackers demanded their mobile phones when they entered the house. He said his grandmother instructed him to hand over the phones to the gunmen. He further explained that the assailants slapped a woman in the house and struck another woman with the edge of a gun before taking his grandmother away.

The boy added that after the attack, the gunmen left the area through the Tashan Maliki direction.

Other parts of the videos showed residents shouting and running as gunshots continued in the background. A voice could also be heard warning people to stay indoors and avoid moving around the community.

As of the time of filing this report, authorities, including the Nigeria Police Force, had not released an official statement on the incident. The exact number of those killed or abducted in the attack also remains unclear.
