Two soldiers, vigilante killed in Bauchi JTF base attack as police anti-kidnapping unit neutralizes seven terrorists.

Terrorists have attacked a Joint Task Force (JTF) base in Gwana District, Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State, killing two soldiers and a vigilante during the encounter.

The attack, which occurred on Sunday, February 22, 2026, at about 4:32 p.m., also led to the abduction of three members of the community.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Bauchi State Command, Superintendent of Police Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement on Monday titled “Security Breach: Seven Bandits Neutralized During Attack in Gwana District, As CP Sani-Omolori Orders Additional Deployment.”

According to the statement, the deceased soldiers were attached to the 33 Artillery Brigade, Bauchi.

“Unfortunately, as a result of the attack, two soldiers attached to 33 Artillery Brigade, Bauchi, and a vigilante paid the supreme price during the encounter. Three members of the affected community were also abducted, and about seven bandits were neutralized by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Police (AKU) during the gun duel,” Habib stated.

He added that seven of the attackers were killed during a gun battle with the Police Anti-Kidnapping Unit.

The police spokesperson said additional security forces have been deployed to the area to restore order, protect residents and prevent further attacks.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, assured the public that intelligence gathering and monitoring operations were ongoing to track down fleeing suspects and secure the release of the abducted victims.

“Further updates will be provided as the situation unfolds,” the statement added.
