Tinubu Approves Procurement of New Military Equipment to Strengthen Fight Against Terrorism

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the acquisition of additional military equipment aimed at strengthening the operational capacity of the nation’s armed forces as they intensify efforts to combat insurgency and terrorism across the country.

The disclosure was made on Thursday by the Minister of Defense, Christopher Musa, following a high-level security meeting with the President. Speaking with journalists after the briefing, Musa explained that the session provided the service chiefs with an opportunity to present a comprehensive update on ongoing military operations and the overall security landscape in Nigeria.

According to him, the engagement allowed the President to receive firsthand information about developments on the battlefield and the strategies being deployed by the military to address emerging threats. Musa remarked that public reports in the media sometimes fail to reflect the full scale of the operations being carried out by troops across various theatres of conflict.

He acknowledged that recent attacks have occurred in certain parts of the country but maintained that the armed forces have continued to respond firmly. The minister stated that ongoing operations have resulted in significant setbacks for terrorist groups, including the elimination of several senior militant leaders and the recovery of assets previously used by insurgents.

Musa also paid tribute to members of the armed forces who lost their lives in the course of defending the nation, describing their sacrifice as painful but honorable. He emphasized that despite these losses, the determination of the military to safeguard the country remains resolute.

Reassuring Nigerians of the government’s commitment to restoring security, the defence minister appealed for patience and public support, noting that insurgent groups sometimes escalate their activities during the period of Ramadan. He added that military leadership has taken this pattern into account and adjusted operational tactics to counter it effectively.

Expressing optimism about the ongoing campaign against terrorism, Musa said the newly approved military hardware, combined with enhanced collaboration among security agencies, would further strengthen Nigeria’s fight against insurgency. He concluded by affirming that all security institutions remain united and determined to bring the conflict to a decisive end.

Power is of two kinds. One is obtained by the fear of punishment and the other by acts of love. Power based on love is a thousand times more effective and permanent then the one derived from fear of punishment." - Mahatma Gandh
