“I Ask Before I Touch” — Uzor Arukwe Responds to Criticism Over Romantic Roles With Married Actresses
Nollywood actor Uzor Arukwe has responded to criticisms surrounding his romantic scenes with married female colleagues, stating that he always seeks their consent before filming intimate moments on set.
The actor made the clarification during a recent interview with BBC Igbo, where he addressed public reactions to his role alongside actress Bambam in the film Love In Every Word.
Arukwe explained that professional boundaries and respect for colleagues are important to him, especially when working with actresses who are married. According to him, he takes deliberate steps to ensure that his actions during filming do not create misunderstandings or tension in their personal lives.
“Before filming, I ask my co-lead actor if it is okay to touch them in a certain way, especially the married ones because I don’t want them to have problems at home,” he said.
The actor noted that the practice helps maintain a professional and respectful environment during production, while also ensuring that all parties involved are comfortable with the scenes being filmed.
Arukwe also addressed speculation about his relationship with Bambam, clarifying that he had no prior personal relationship with the actress before they worked together on the movie.
According to him, their collaboration on Love In Every Word was purely professional, and the on-screen chemistry seen by viewers was simply part of their acting roles.
His comments come amid ongoing discussions among fans and social media users about the portrayal of romantic scenes in Nollywood and how such roles affect actors’ personal lives.
Industry observers say Arukwe’s remarks highlight the growing emphasis on professional boundaries and consent in film production, particularly as Nollywood continues to expand its global reach and adopt more structured filmmaking standards.
