Tinubu Appoints New Minister Of Power
Mr. Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe has been proposed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as Minister of Power, pending Senate confirmation.Tinubu’s Special Advisor on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.
In compliance with the Constitution, the nomination has been sent to the Senate for review and approval.
The nomination comes after Adebayo Adelabu, a former minister, resigned in order to run for elective office.
Mr. Tegbe, an expert in fiscal and economic reform from Oyo State, has worked in both the public and private sectors for more than 35 years.
He oversaw numerous initiatives in governance, institutional transformation, and fiscal policy reform while serving as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa. Additionally, he has provided strategic reforms, regulatory frameworks, and investment structuring advice to important government agencies and businesses.
He is currently in charge of bolstering bilateral development cooperation between Nigeria and the People’s Republic of China as the Director General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership (NCSP).
In keeping with FOCAC goals, the NCSP also organizes interactions with public sector stakeholders to promote social and economic development.
Mr Tegbe’s experience includes significant engagements within the power sector, particularly in regulatory and institutional reform involving agencies such as the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company (NBET).
The statement added: “His nomination is expected to strengthen further ongoing efforts to reform the power sector, enhance grid stability, and attract sustainable investment in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.
“The President expects the Minister-Designate, upon confirmation, to bring his extensive expertise to bear to advance critical reforms and deliver improved outcomes for Nigerians in the power sector.”
