Hope Uzodimma, the governor of Imo State, has been elected Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum by 18 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
On Friday, the governors showed up for an urgent meeting at the Imo State Lodge in Abuja.
According to reports, the meeting is taking place just hours after the Progressive Governors Forum refused to remove Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma from her position as chairman.
Among the governors seen at the event were Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi; Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia; Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris; Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni; Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf; and Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo.
Others include Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru; Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum; Nasarawa State Deputy Governor, Dr Emmanuel Akabe; Sokoto State Governor, Ahmad Aliyu; Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas; Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani; and Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
The Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) denied rumors that its chairman, Uzodimma, had been fired in a statement released on Thursday.
The Forum characterized the reports as untrue, deceptive, and unfounded, according to the statement.
Folorunso Aluko, the Director General of the PGF, emphasized that the Secretariat has no record of a resolution to remove Uzodimma and stated that no meeting was held where such a decision was made.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the report is entirely false, baseless, and without an iota of truth,” the statement said.
