CAF’s Decision To Delay 2026 WAFCON: Insights And Explanation
The Confederation of African Football CAF, has provided an explanation for the postponement of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, or WAFCON.
Samson Adamu, the acting secretary-general of CAF, acknowledged in an interview on SuperSport’s Soccer Africa that it wasn’t an easy decision, but ensuring the teams had the best possible playing environment was the top priority.
The WAFCON was rescheduled from March 17 to July 25–August 16 of this year.
Speaking on the development, Adamu said, “The reason we delayed the WAFCON was that there were circumstances beyond us at the time that wouldn’t permit us to have the best competition possible.
“Also after having a very successful Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, for the men, It was very important that the WAFCON is organised under the right and perfect conditions for the women.”
