Edo Political Shakeup: PDP Lawmakers Defect To NDC Amid Natasha’s Spotlight
The Nigeria Democratic Congress ( NDC) received new defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party on Thursday, including Hon. Natasha Osawaru Idibia, the wife of well-known singer 2Baba, and Charity Aiguobarueghian, the Minority Leader of the Edo State House of Assembly.
The NDC National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, hosted a reception at his home in Abuja where the defectors were formally unveiled.
Dr. Donald Eboigbe, a candidate for the Oredo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, and Dr. John Yoriyo, a former deputy governor of Gombe State, are among the others who joined the party.
Dickson assured the newcomers that they would be treated fairly and given equal opportunities within the party.
“The party remains open to all Nigerians who share its vision of good governance, national unity, and inclusive development. It is focused on women and youth participation,” he said.
Speaking at the event, Osawaru expressed optimism about the future of the party.
She said, “It has not been easy at all. But we thank God that we still have a leader like Senator Dickson. It keeps reminding me of where we are and where the country is supposed to go
“It is obvious that the country needs to salute him and the NDC for this. I also believe that very soon, the NDC will take over the country.”
Responding on behalf of Edo lawmakers who defected, Aiguobarueghian said the decision followed consultations and careful consideration of the country’s political situation.
Aigobarueghian also said past interactions with political leaders influenced his perspective, recalling that he was once told Dickson was “the direction of Nigeria.”
She said, “It is obvious that very soon, the NDC will take over the country. The goal is to build a society where the child of nobody can become somebody without knowing anybody.”
