Nigeria’s political landscape is changing as Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde formally announced his plan to run for president in 2027.
At the Unity rally, which the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and All People’s Movement (APM) jointly organized to formally establish their alliance, Makinde made the official announcement.
The governor urged opposition leaders to band together in opposition to what he called the ruling All Progressives Congress’s (APC) intentional attempt to turn Nigeria into a one-party state.
According to him, Nigeria is no longer a democracy without a political environment that ensures opposition parties have an equal opportunity to compete without interference from the ruling party.
He also urged Nigerians to stop being what he called “political spectators and bystanders,” promising that the country would experience a historic reset in 2027 if all eligible voters participated.
