One of the greatest secrets in the life of faith is the power of divine instruction. A single word from God can change a person’s situation more than years of human effort. Many people labour honestly and sincerely, yet their results remain small because they are operating without clear spiritual direction. But when God speaks and a person obeys, situations that once resisted progress begin to open.
In John 21:5–6, the Bible gives us a powerful picture. Jesus stood on the shore and asked His disciples, “Friends, have you caught anything?” They answered, “Not a thing.” These were not lazy men. They were experienced fishermen. They understood the sea and they knew their boat. They had worked all night, yet nothing entered their nets. Then Jesus gave them one simple instruction. “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” It was the same sea, the same boat, and the same net, yet the direction changed. Suddenly the result changed completely.
This teaches us something very important. The problem was not the sea. The problem was not the net. The problem was not even their effort. The issue was direction. When God gives instruction, effort begins to produce results. When God speaks, long seasons of delay can turn into sudden abundance. One word from Jesus can accomplish what many nights of struggle could not achieve.
Some of us have been fishing on the same side for too long. We have repeated the same actions and expected different results. We have relied on our experience, our connections, our intelligence, and our plans. Yet heaven may be saying that it is time to move. The right side represents obedience. It represents revelation. It represents divine wisdom. The right side is not about working harder. It is about working according to God’s instruction. The Bible says in James 1:5 that if any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault. Many people struggle not because God is silent, but because they have not asked. They move before they pray. They decide before they seek counsel from heaven. They act first and then ask God to bless what they have already concluded. Yet divine wisdom is available to those who sincerely seek it.
Look at Daniel. When others were afraid and confused, Daniel did not panic. He prayed. The Bible says in Daniel 2:19 that the secret was revealed to him in a vision at night. While others were guessing, Daniel was asking. While others were anxious, Daniel was seeking God. And God answered him. This shows us that divine wisdom responds to sincere seeking. God is not partial. What He did for Daniel, He can also do for you.
Child of God, you will not lack wisdom. As you begin to follow God’s direction, areas where your efforts once produced little will begin to yield results. Businesses that seemed stagnant can experience new life. Careers that felt delayed can receive clarity. Relationships that were confusing can gain direction. The same sea that once looked empty can suddenly become productive when God’s instruction is applied.
Do not rely only on your own understanding. The Bible says we should trust in the Lord with all our heart and not lean on our own understanding. Ask before you act. Listen before you move. Pray before you conclude. The difference between emptiness and overflow can be one instruction from God. The difference between delay and abundance can be obedience to a simple word.
Your season of fruitless effort is coming to an end. God is speaking even now. He is saying, “Throw your net on the right side.” It may look small and it may not make sense to human reasoning, but obedience will unlock what hard labour alone could not produce. As you align with His direction, your nets will not remain empty. They will overflow. And you will testify that it was not by power, not by might, but by the wisdom and instruction of the Lord.
